A group of young adults in their early 20s, too high to necessarily form their own opinions, were ordered to kill her.

Robbie creates a warm interior life for Tate using little dialogue.Ī sense of deep dread grips all those who are aware of how her story ended. Baby on the way aside, Tate loved her career, Los Angeles, and was blazing a trail to make a real name for herself.

Robbie portrays Tate as gently flawed, and full of hope for the future.

The movie is practically a love letter to the late actor, who was murdered 50 years ago. After seeing the film, it’s easy to see Tarantino’s frustration with the question. When a reporter at Cannes asked Tarantino why Margot Robbie’s Sharon Tate had so few lines, the director responded, “I reject your hypothesis.” Which, without having seen the movie, came off as rather flippant to me. But does that mean Tarantino’s films are sexist or anti-woman? The landscape is different as Tarantino unveils Once Upon a Time in Hollywood than it was when Pulp Fiction debuted 25 years ago, and this kind of story-making can sit at odds with vocal online communities seeking politically correct, morally guided storytelling. His vision isn’t centered on what individuals will do with the images they receive, but simply on eliciting a reaction. He is a filmmaker concerned less about the morality of his stories, and more about the initial emotional impact the story has on its audience. This quick dialogue exchange exemplifies Tarantino’s approach to visual violence against women throughout his cinematic career. The point of the story is they robbed a bank with a telephone.” “The point of the story isn’t the little girl. “There probably never was a little girl,” Pumpkin responds. Honey Bunny leans across the table and asks what happened to the child. Money in hand, the man strolled out of the bank. A voice on the phone informed the teller that if he didn’t hand over cash, the man who handed him the phone would lose his little girl. A man walked into a bank and handed a mobile phone to a teller. In the meantime, I think I'll go watch Hateful Eight 'Extended Version' on Netflix just so I can enjoy the demise of Daisy Domergue. In the opening scene of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994), Pumpkin (Tim Roth) tells his lover Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer) about a bank robbery he read about. Tarantino has done a great job on this novel, and if you're a fan, you'll love it! I just ordered the paperback version of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Amazon for $7.48, and I'll also be ordering the hardback when it is released this Fall. If not, read the book yourself on Kindle or buy the actual book. If you think you can stomach Jennifer Jason Leigh's reading performance, then this great story is worth a listen. As far as I'm concerned, this audio book was completely ruined because of the incessant vocal fry. According to my wife who is annoyed by vocal fry even more than I, women talk like this because they think they sound intelligent, sexy, or they are just simply copy-catting what they see on TV.

Many females use vocal fry these days, and I (plus several people I know) find it extremely annoying and definitely not appropriate for professional settings such as a book narrator. For those of you who don't know, "vocal fry" is the croaky speech idiosyncrasy that was popularized by young girls like Kim Kardashian. Not only is she monotone, but she consistently has vocal fry throughout the reading. Talk about a bring-down bummer!!! Jennifer Jason Leigh is THE WORST audio book narrator that I have ever heard. I pre-ordered on Audible and listened as soon as it became available. Because I'm an obvious Tarantino fan and loved the movie so much, I was excited to get this audio book. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is, in my opinion, Tarantino's second best movie and one of my top ten favorite movies of all time (Pulp Fiction is #1).
